About
Well, hello there! you actually are reading this, so I guess you want to know a bit more about me.
Looking for my resume? you can find that here ==> My resume.
My name is Anas Hannoun*
I'm a developer based in the Netherlands, originally from Syria, and I build web tools, sites and platforms.
I used to be a cook before I get into programming. Now, I cook up code instead, and I must say, the results are much more satisfying (and less likely to burn).
*Fun fact : If you Google my name, you'll find a US based neurologist, a Dubai based technical manager, and me .. starting my 8372nd side project and occasionally wondering if I picked the wrong profession. (Spoiler: I didn't.)
I started my journey in web development in 2020, after completing a (very basic) course in C# and
.NET. And landed my first job as a "Software Engineer". I know, I know, I was totally against
it, but that was the company's structure
What I Do Today
- Full-stack development (frontend + backend)
- Custom WordPress plugins, themes and integrations
- Static Jekyll builds
- Privacy friendly / browser only tools
- Experimenting with new stuff to keep the web or at least my corner of it fun
My Philosophy
- Keep it simple, stupid (KISS).. until you can't
- Don't Repeat Yourself (DRY) .. ever
- Make it work, make it right.. try to minimize the tech debt
- Dynamic, dynamic and dynamic.. you never know!
- Code is NOT poetry and that's okay
- Code is meant to be fun.. sometimes
- Not everybody reads the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service, that's why I prefer and try to build tools that respect the user, their privacy and actually solve a problem
Next Step
So.. plot twist:After a couple of years living in the trenches of web development.. many CSS wars of who loads first, PHP spaghetti of guessing what the variable type might be and JavaScript frameworks that just stop working because a Chrome team intern pushed an experimental "feature", I'm thinking of packing my bags for something different.
I'd like to (read: Love to) work on software that doesn't just sit in a browser but actually lives in the real world.. Thinking of maybe tiny chips that blink LEDs when they're happy? or when you are happy? or when someone is happy :) .. I don't know!
Maybe devices? machines? that talk to each other without asking for 47 npm packages and has 2 TB node_modules directory? systems that doesn't necessarily need a cookie banner, GA, GSC and other G's?
Call it embedded development, IoT, or just "coding closer to the metal" .. that's the next playground I'd love to dive into. I'd probably be posting some future experiments (if my internet keeps working!) that involve microcontrollers? sensors? I don't know, just Googling (or DuckDuckGoing? DuckingDuckingGoing?) stuff right now and maybe short circuiting something in the living room or the kitchen. (Sorry, house .. sorry, wife)
Outside the IDE:
- Cooking (obviously)
- Reading (mostly tech blogs and articles)
- Movies (usually nerdy stuff: Marvel, DC and other comic / superhero films )
- TV Series (just finished Game Of Thrones for like the 5th time)
- Light Gaming Xbox (Fifa, Mortal Kombat)
- "TimelineUp" and "They Are Coming: Zombie Survival" are my phone guilty pleasures
Places I've Been (most notable mentions):
- Syria (Born and raised)
- Homs (hometown)
- Damascus
- Tartus
- Raqqa
- I should have visited Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia and others before everything happened, but I guess that's life
- Turkey
- Bodrum (favorite)
- Hatay
- Istanbul
- Netherlands (Home)
- Enschede (current & favorite)
- Middelburg (Dutch hometown =D)
- Amsterdam
- Volendam
- I should probably get out more..
- Germany
- Düsseldorf
- Bochum
- Would love to explore more of Germany
- Belgium
- Brussels
- Antwerp
- Australia (simply amazing)
- Melbourne (breath taking)
- United Arab Emirates (loved it)
- Abu Dhabi (favorite)
- Dubai
- Lebanon (one of the most beautiful and fun countries I've been to)
- Amchit / Byblos (favorite)
- Beirut
- Zahle

The Netherlands, home of the Dutch Masters, birthplace of microbiology and structured programming, and pioneer of world-class water engineering — a nation where precision meets imagination.

I hail from Syria, land of the first written alphabet, birthplace of the oldest known song, and the origin of legendary Damascus steel — a crossroads of history, craft, and language.
